24/7 Library Kiosk?
At an estimated cost of $1 million, the proposed location is on the far west side of Flower Mound, past 377 on 1171 in La Estancia.
That's over by 35W in case you forgot what the world looks like past 3040/1171.
How would this work?
✨ Proposed location is across 377, on the west side of Flower Mound that everyone forgets is still Flower Mound
✨ Accessible 24 hours a day/7 days a week
✨ Reserve library materials and pick up here instead of driving all the way across town and back (30+ minutes round-trip, this would be a serious time saver)
✨ Return books here too!
✨ Covered “Outdoor Reading Oasis” would be shaded (cue the “It’s too hot for that” contingent of concerned citizens)
Here's what the Blue Ribbon Committee has in their deck:
Wait, what's the Blue Ribbon Committee?
The 12-person committee was appointed by Town Council to evaluate potential facilities, parks and trails, and street reconstruction projects for a possible bond election.
TLDR: They're thinking of fun ways to spend money and if Council approves any ideas we'll see if we want to pay for them via special election.
Tell me more about this book vending machine
It's made by Envisionware and it's truly a one-stop book vending machine. Staff can fill it with items they think will be popular, or simply deliver holds. It's a clever way to get books in the hands of more people and extend library services to those who may not have the time to visit the physical building.
It might cost a million bucks, but that's cheaper than a whole new building, staff to run it, etc.
Is this really happening?
This is just an idea and the Blue Ribbon Committee is having several Open House events to gather community feedback. There are *several* projects being considered, including:
⚽️ Synthetic Turf Field at Chinn Chapel
🚒 West Side Fire Station 6
🏃♀️CAC remodel (this is the spiciest and most expensive one - almost $50 million)
Want to learn more? Attend an Open House!
The Blue Ribbon Committee will make a recommendation to Council on what they think should be included in a bond proposal. Council will then decide whether or not to call for an election in May 2025.
There are come-and-go open house sessions for y'all to learn about the proposed projects and provide feedback. We think it would be better if they just published all the info online, and maybe they have but that's not clear. We are all busy, who has time for this in-person nonsense?
Anyway, here's the dates:
- Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Community Activity Center (1200 Gerault Rd.)
- Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 6-8 p.m. at Flower Mound Town Hall (2121 Cross Timbers Rd.)
- Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 9-11 a.m. at the Senior Center (2701 W. Windsor Dr.)
Early comments say...it's a little expensive
Here at FMO we did ask our followers for a quick gut check and...it did feel spendy to them.
