Black Mark Farm

Black Mark Farm

The history of Flower Mound goes way back, but in the 1960's Black Mark Farm covered several thousand acres of our town.

Owned by Eddie Marcus, the working ranch raised Angus cattle and was the frequent host of Western Parties for out-of-state guests including foreign dignitaries and movie stars, including Coco Chanel!

Never hear of Eddie? He's on the right in that photo, and is who Edward S. Marcus High School is named for. Yes, the very same family as the "Marcus" in Neiman Marcus. He was on the board.

Black Mark Farm was a pristine part of Denton County and Edward, along with his ranch manager Bob Rheudasil, took excellent care of the land with a strong focus on conservation.

Rheudasil was also our first mayor, and the saddle he used for decades to work the ranch was recently donated to the Town. Our sources estimate it was made about 1925.

They were also both instrumental in making sure Flower Mound incorporated in 1961 to avoid being annexed by Irving. (Can you imagine?!) Sign up for our newsletter, because that story is JUICY.

✨ A very special thank you to Mark Glover and his team for the photos. He’s writing a book about Flower Mound’s history, all the way back to the 1880’s and we cannot WAIT to read it.
