CAC improvements for $50 million?
Our fair town is very probably going to put together a bond to vote on in the spring and one of the proposed projects from the Blue Ribbon Bond Committee is pouring a boatload of money in the Community Activity Center.
Fill out this survey to let the committee know what you think, and there's even a section to ask questions and request a response.
Wait what? I have never heard of this committee
Straight from the town's website:
A Blue Ribbon Bond Committee has been appointed by Town Council to evaluate potential facilities, parks and trails, and street reconstruction projects for a possible bond election. The Committee's task is to provide a recommendation to Town Council on potential projects and programs, and Council may then call for a bond election to occur in May 2025.
Basically, they have big ideas to make life cooler here and we get to decide if we want to pay for them. Time to get educated. Let's explore.
What new stuff would the CAC get?
✨ Indoor turf field
✨ One of those cool indoor pool water park areas other towns have (Grapevine has a really good one)
✨ A long list of renovations: locker rooms, weight areas, etc
✨ Shaded rooftop fitness turf
✨ More group class/fitness studios
Why do we need this?
The CAC opened in 2008, which was 16 years ago. The town has grown significantly since then and also things do wear out and need updating. Plus, cool new things are...cool.
We applaud the big ideas here but we also don't see anything about how much fees will be to USE this facility in the future. The CAC also has had to cut back on pool hours because they couldn't hire enough lifeguards in past years. Not sure if that's still a problem or if they have a plan for that.
The CAC is pretty affordable ($25/month for an adult), but it is located on the far south side of town. Residents have complained for years that the north and west sides in particular are not being served, we hear a lot that perhaps we should build a second facility instead of improving/expanding the first.

Pinchy-pinch to embiggen. These are all "inspo" pictures, and while they're not labeled as such, they're probably just to give us an idea. We wish they'd publish more details, we're sure they exist.
